지난 5월 18일 주일 낮 3부예배시 우리 교회에서 1년 내지 3~4년 신앙생활을 했고 신실하며 주의 일에 소망이 있는 4명의 외국인 마두, 킹슬리A, 아킨, 샘슨이 리더로 임명되었다. 그간 내부적으로 리더 역할을 담당하는 핵심적인 일꾼들이 몇몇 있었지만 청년회 여타 조직의 직분자들처럼 공식적으로 임명되어 활동하는 것은 이번이 처음이다.

이들이 리더로 세워진 이유는 여러 가지가 있다.
먼저, 해외선교부의 섬기는 이들이 근로시간상 심방할 시간을 맞추기 힘들 뿐 아니라, 교회에서 약 2시간 30분이나 소요되는 거리상의 문제로 그들을 지속적으로 양육하는 데에 어려움을 겪어 왔기 때문이다.
그래서 그들과 함께 생활하며 ‘행동하는 크리스천’으로서의 삶을 솔선수범하고, 언제든지 동료들이 신앙생활 잘 하도록 독려할 수 있는 외국인 리더의 필요성이 대두되었다.

또한 외국인들에게 우리 교회에 대한 주인정신과 예배의 적극적인 참여 의식을 갖게 하기 위해서이다. 한국인이 그들의 예배를 인도했을 때 그들은 구경꾼으로서 하나의 예배관람자가 될 수밖에 없다. 그러나 그들과 언어와 문화가 동일한 리더가 모임의 중심이 되면 예배에 적극적으로 참여하게 되고, 특히 리더들에게는 이 교회는 내 교회라고 하는 주인의식을 갖게 되어 외국인 예배의 토착화와 부흥을 가져오는 신령한 사역의 밑거름이 될 것이다.

마지막으로 리더가 된 외국인들은 영혼에 대한 사명감과 책임감이 한층 더해져 전도, 심방 등 영혼을 섬기는 일을 기쁨으로 하게 된다. 열심히 훈련받은 그들을 종국에는 현지 선교사로 파송하는 것이 리더를 세우는 가장 중요한 이유인 것이다.
우리 교회에서 외국인들을 누구보다 가까이서 사랑하는 해외선교부 섬기는 이들은 더 많은 리더들이 세워져 이 땅에 있는 외국인들의 부흥이 일어나기를 소망하며 또한, 리더들이 모두 현지선교사로 파송되어 각 나라에서 많은 영혼을 구령하기를 기도하며 꿈꾸고 있다.

The Four Leaders: Madu, Kingsley A, Akin and Samson, Appointed among the Foreign Brothers in the Church

On Sunday June 12, while in the third worship time, those four men of the O.M.D.(Overseas Missionary Department) of Yon-Sei Central Baptist Church were
appointed to the leadership position for the foreign brothers in the church. Some of them have been in the church for about one year; and others for three to four years. All of them are approved to be faithful and have been earnestly hoping for the missionary works in the Lord.

Until that time those had been among the core workers who actually leads brothers, but not officially appointed; that was, therefore, the first case of official appointment as other Korean servants in the youth group of the church.

There are some grounds for the appointment: First, the Korean servants in the O.M.D. are quite in difficulty with regard to bringing up the foreign workers in the faith because of the much troubles with visiting the foreign brothers who works mostly at the place far from the church, taking two and a half hours or more to get there, and also in arranging enough time for visiting them because of little room available for any meeting during their work time.

Also expected is that the newly appointed leaders will lead and help those fellow brothers to more actively participate in the worship; and to more positively gain the consciousness of membership of the church. When only Korean leaders manage the worship time, the foreign brothers often used to be likely to be in the position of spectator who only saw beside what was going on; not being able to be the one that worships. When a leader who has the same background of culture and language, however, becomes the core member that leads a meeting, the other members are more likely to be able to actively participate in the meeting owing to the leader’s roles.
The leaders need to think that they are who not only belongs to but also leads the church, and to practice in and out of the church their great passion to serve others in Jesus Christ; so that the worship of the foreign members would develop day by day and settle firm in the church.

Finally the leaders are expected to devote themselves to the Lord’s ministry to love and serve the fellow brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ, visiting them and enlarge the evangelism among the foreign workers in Korea.
One of the most important ground to raise up the leaders is that they are to dispatched to their home countries for the work of ministry after all the hard training. Every member in O.M.D. that serves, loves and always try to be close to the foreign brothers in this land is earnestly hoping and praying that the great spiritual renewal would arise among them; and that everyone is eventually dispatched to his home country, dedicating himself to the great work of the Savior Jesus Christ, delivering people from the eternal death to the eternal life.
