Completion of Church No.176 in the Republic of Haiti, South America

The news of the completion of the 176th church in Haiti was heard. Currently, as part of the “1000 Churches of the World” project, Yonsei Central Baptist Church is actively carrying out construction with the goal of completing 200 churches in Haiti by October 2018. Of the remaining 24 churches, 15 churches were selected and are in construction. Church No. 176 was built in the Jacmel district, adjacent to the capital, Port-au-Prince. The neatly refurbished church with a blue roof is 205m² and can accommodate up to 300 people. Like the existing architectural churches, Church No. 176 was also filled with aspirations from the church members. The saints presented offerings for architecture and carried bricks and materials directly to the top of the mountain, thereby helping to shorten the construction period. Missionary Jong-kook Lee has been leading all 200 church constructions in the country for five years since being dispatched as a lay missionary of Yonsei Central Church to Haiti in September 2013. In addition to church construction, he is also devoting to prayer meetings, as a leader, for pastors’ spirituality and to help their retraining through the Air and Correspondence College and evangelism ministry. The pastor’s prayer meeting is held every Tuesday and is attended by about 30 people praying enthusiastically for 3 hours. 38 pastors who participated in the prayer meeting graduated from the Air and Correspondence College on June 30. Every Saturday at Church No. 16, they studied with the aid of lecture recordings by a professor of theology at Northern Theological Seminary, Haiti and in cooperation with a Korean missionary. On July 30th they commenced a ‘mission trip’ to Saut D’Eau, 65km northeast of Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti. This being the second ‘mission trip’ to Saut D’Eau, the first being last year. The largest ‘Voodoo Festival’ in Haiti is held annually in the Saut D’Eau area every July, where thousands from around the country gather. More than 300 pastors and the church members including missionary Jong-kook Lee visited Saut D’Eau, held a week-long evangelism rally, and preached about the Saviour Jesus to those who are soaked in indigenous beliefs. At that time, Haiti had been constantly subjected to crimes such as carjacking, robbery, and murder involving the fighting between gangsters in the eastern Martissant area. The government evacuated the inhabitants because the area was insecure. Despite this, the mission team preached the gospel of Jesus’ blood and returned safely, powerfully helped by the intercessory prayers of the Yonsei Central Church saints.

The ‘Yonsei Central Baptist Church’s World 1000 Church Constructions’ project is gaining so much traction in the countries where it’s being implemented.

‘From New Year, many people have been attending the church since having a building. Now we have a neat place where many people can gather and worship, both the saints and local residents are very happy. The senior pastors from Church No.3-10 in South Africa after finishing the building at the end of January sent us 8 thank you letters for supporting the church constructions. Giving thanks to God, they wrote in the letters to pastor Seok-Jeon Yoon, “We had always dreamt of having a church building, but we couldn’t have one. Glory to God for building the church through Yonsei Central Baptist Church!” Last February, Dao, a local missionary in Togo was sent by Yonsei Central Baptist Church and he built ‘Kara church’ in Kara city, Kara province and Faure Gnassingbe (the president of Togo) attended the dedication service of the church, which became the talk of the town. It was President Faure’s hometown and he donated the site of the “Kara Church” to them. The Governor of Kara province said, “We thank God and the Yonsei Central Baptist Church for building a great church in Kara city.” Then president Faure nodded, and gave thanks and glory to God with the saints.

Soul salvation after church construction
After obeying the prompting of the Holy Spirit to build churches overseas, they have now become national and regional landmarks saving lots of souls. The pastors are engaged in evangelism for neighbours with the saints, telling them to come to the newest and finest building in the village. The church buildings are also used as schools and treatment facilities during the day. They are experiencing a great revival after building churches with the finest, most comfortable and up-to-date facilities. In Kandhamal, Orissa, after the church was built about 150 members of the Baptist church worshiped the Lord openly, who had previously worshiped at home secretly due to persecution.

41% Construction Progress of 1000 Churches in the World

Yonsei Central Baptist Church has achieved 41% Construction Progress of 1000 Churches in the World. Since the project declaration in 2013, 176 churches were completed by June 2018 in Haiti and 200 churches will have been completed by this October. Constructions are actively underway in other areas of the world.

On June 6th, Church No. 1 and No. 2 in Côte d’Ivoire, West Africa were built by Yonsei Central Baptist Church and were dedicated 59 days after construction. The construction was started in April. Côte d’Ivoire International Evangelical Mission Organization (MIE) was in charge. They had a dedication service of Church No. 1 on Sunday August 5th, where Koadio Kouassi Paul Simplice, president of MIE, Gilbert Ouattara, missionary of Yonsei Central Church, local officials, the church members and 150 local residents gathered and glorified the Lord. Pastor David, senior pastor of Church No. 1, could not hide his happy look in the dedication service, saying, “We thank Yonsei Central Church for helping us build the body of the Lord in Bouaké,” and he presented his vision, “We will take action in saving souls through prayer, evangelism and worship on this occasion.”

South Africa, 40 churches were completed and 20 churches are under construction targeting on 100. In Togo, 70 churches were built and 70 are under construction with a goal of completing 300. Côte d’lvoire and eSwatini (formerly called Swaziland) set their potential goal as 100. In the other areas in Africa, Yonsei Central Church is aiming to build 100 churches and in the other areas of the world, 100(including Brazil 2, Nepal 2, Parkistan 7, India 5). The ultimate goal is to achieve 1,000 churches building project all over the world.
